Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Support Office Building 1

United Consulting was retained to provide construction materials testing and special inspections for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA) headquarters as part of its effort to create a campus central to the three system hospitals. A major component of this plan is the Support Office Building 1, a 346,349 square-foot concrete frame, Class A office building with two levels below grade and six above. The facility includes a seven-story parking deck, with a structural design supported by a drilled shaft foundation system.

Our International Code Council (ICC)-certified special inspectors conducted inspections of structural steel elements and connections, reinforcing steel, and post-tension cable placement at the slab-on-grade and elevated slabs. During the onsite work, they observed the stressing of the post-tension cables and documented actual elongations, which were immediately distributed following the completion of the stressing operations. Also, a range of tests were conducted by our American Concrete Institute (ACI)-certified technicians on samples collected from fresh concrete pours. Our team of experts created test cylinder specimens, monitored concrete temperatures, and performed tests to assess the flatness and levelness of the completed slabs. The concrete specimens were then transported to United Consulting’s certified state-of-the-art laboratory and stored in a moisture and temperature-controlled environment to accurately determine their compressive strength.

We implemented an advanced scheduling and reporting system that enabled real-time scheduling of our personnel, electronic delivery of testing and inspection reports, along with efficient tracking and documentation of deficiency items.
